Zimbabwean Stand up Comic Wins Steve Harvey’s Stand up Spotlight Awards
Zimbabwean standup comic Long John, real name Learnmore Jonasi, has won People’s Choice Award at Steve Harvey’s Standup Spotlight Awards.
Long John beat off strong competition from across the world to claim the award. Announcing the award on social media, the renowned American comedian and actor Steve Harvey wrote,
Thank you to all who participated in the Steve Harvey Stand Up Spotlight Competition! The People’s Choice Award Winner is Long John @long_john_ who joined the competition from Zimbabwe! Congratulations man, you were funny, animated, and have great stage presence keep it up champ!
Zimbabweans on social media had launched a spirited campaign to canvass votes for the comedian while local comedians such as Bustop TV even made a video urging Zimbabweans to vote for the comedian and Zimbabweans seem to have taken the call to heart and added their votes to the numerous international ones which voted for Long John.
