Applications are now open for Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at McGill University.

This scholarship aims to give rise to new leaders who would provide active contributions to the world in the future.

The program selects students who are extraordinary in their talent despite their financial resources spent on their education.

Including the funds the scholarship is giving, it also includes an assembly of a comprehensive support environment to protect each student’s academic success and community service. It is a non-thesis program. Any nationality is welcomed. no discrimination over color, caste, race, educational background and gender is considered.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be or less than 35 years of age at the time of admission.
  • Haven’t registered or completed and graduate studies.
  • Eligible for any of the master’s programs mentioned above.
  • Be nominated by any of the current McGill professors or staff members from the department you applied for.
  • Be a citizen of any Sub-saharan African country.
  • Exceptional record of community service in your school or society.
  • Return to the home country directly after completion of the program and intend to give services o the country in terms of social and economic development.
  • Ensure that your financial status is in the lowest two quintiles of the country

Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, The Gambia, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

  • Personal statement (maximum of 350 words)
  • Bank statement (if nominated)
  • Sponsor letter (if nominated)
  • Completed online application form

The last date to apply for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program for the year 2020 is 31st January 2020

Application Process:

To apply for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program follow the steps given below:

  1. Select an eligible program of your interest
  2. See its requirements if you are eligible or not
  3. Apply for nomination
  4. Upload required documents
  5. If nominated, create an account on the application portal and share username with nominating department
  6. After having your fee waiver through the nomination committee, upload your sponsor letter, application form and bank statement on the application portal
  7. Request recommendation letter and email mcf-scholars@mcgill.ca
  8. If you passed the pre-screening stage, your application moves to review committee
    You would get notified of your result through email.
