Harare, Zimbabwe – In a shocking turn of events, a senior police officer found himself at the centre of a violent confrontation with angry nightclub patrons at Jongwe Corner in Harare.

Detective Inspector Alexander Jachi, the head of the police’s homicide division, became the focus of attention after shooting his firearm following a dispute, leaving a merrymaker wounded in the leg.

This incident unfolded in the early hours of Saturday and has sent shockwaves throughout the city.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to Zimlive recount the harrowing incident that unfolded in the parking lot shortly after the nightclub closed its doors around 2 AM.

An altercation began when Jachi, standing near his beige Toyota Fortuner, refused to make way for a group of patrons seeking passage. Tempers flared, words were exchanged, and things quickly escalated.

His actions only served to further infuriate the crowd, who retaliated by attacking him with bottles and bricks, ultimately disarming him.

As a result, three men have been detained to assist with the ongoing inquiries.

National police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi provided an update on Jachi’s condition, stating,

His condition is stable at the moment.

Anti-riot police descended upon the Jongwe Corner nightclub in Hatfield at around 10:30 PM on Sunday night.

Witnesses reported that they used force against the patrons. Assistant Commissioner Nyathi clarified the police’s actions, saying:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police investigations team was on a follow-up of suspects after the attack on Detective Chief Inspector Jachi.

He also assured the public that anyone who felt they had been assaulted by police officers during the operation was encouraged to come forward and report, emphasizing that investigations would be conducted.

If there is anyone who was attacked or assaulted by police officers, the concerned persons are free to report for investigations to be conducted.
