Queen Elizabeth ll dies
Queen Elizabeth II was the monarch of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland died yesterday at her home in Balmoral Castle in the United Kingdom.
She attained the title of Queen in 1952 after her father's death and reigned for more than 70 years until her death on Sept. 8, 2022, making her the longest-reigning monarch in British history.
She was also the only female member of the royal family to have entered the armed forces and served in World War II.
Elizabeth II was born in Mayfair, London, as the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York (later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth). Her father ascended the throne in 1936 upon the abduction of his brother, King Edward VIII, making Elizabeth the heir apparent to the throne.
She was educated privately at home and began to undertake public duties during the Second World War, serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service.
In November 1947, she married Philip Mountbatten who was former prince of Greece and Denmark, and their marriage lasted 73 years until his death in April 2021. They had four children: Charles III; Anne, Princess Royal; Prince Andrew, Duke of York; and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.
