Prophet, Chief, Radio Presenter in court over adulterous affair
Self-styled prophet, Tapiwa Freddy, popularly known as T-Freddy, was yesterday back in court in the matter where he is accusing his former small-house Rutendo Makuti a radio presenter of extortion.
The accused Rutendo Makuti and two others Witness Bungu (Chief Chikwaka) and Gibson Jaji appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda, who remanded the matter to November 7. The trio then informed the court of their intention to file an application for referral to the Constitutional Court.
Freddy was in a love affair with Makuti who was a congregant at his church. During the course of their romance, Makuti allegedly threatened to expose their affair if Freddy did not meet her financial demands. Makuti then roped in Chief Chikwaka to fine Freddy over violating certain cultural customs.
Chief Chikwaka allegedly accused Freddy of raping Makuti, and of sleeping with her before a year had lapsed, after the death of her husband. Freddy promised to pay US$15 000 and three goats as a fine. Freddy failed to honor his promises which led Jaji to threaten to arrest Freddy in front of his congregants during one of his church services. Chief Chikwaka allegedly threatened to leak a video of the conversation they had, on social media.
Makuti also threatened to expose the prophet through a controversial Facebook influencer, Tatelicious.
Freddy filed a police report and Makuti was arrested. She counter-accused him of rape. Freddy was tried and acquitted of the rape charge last year.
