A Form Four learner from Chigodora, Mutare, was left with egg on the face after he was exposed for repeatedly pestering his family’s 45-year-old neighbour for sexual favours.

The 17-year-old is alleged to have stolen his parents’ phones and used them to try and lure the 45-year-old Tamari Pangira into bed.

The matter appeared before Headman Chigodora.

Pangira said she was stunned by the teenager’s relentless attempts to get sexual favours from her. He said the teenager is of the same age as her daughter.

Pangira said what infuriated her the most was the teenager’s parents’ reluctance to deal with their son’s uncouth behaviour after she brought the issue to their attention.

“He has been pestering me for sex non-stop and his parents seem to be turning a blind eye to this. I have engaged them on countless occasions, but it seems as if they do not care.

They are reluctant to reprimand their child and because of that he is not relenting in pestering me. They even hurled insults at me, arguing that their child would never ask me out as I suffer from mental health, yet I know what I am saying.

“I met this boy the other day when I was not feeling well and he grɑbbed my breasts and buttocks and started fondling them, begging me to sleep with him. I shoved him off and went away.

“I approached his mother and told him that his son had sexually molested me. I begged her to reprimand him, but she did not do anything.

She said the teen then approached her and asked her provocative sexual issues.

“He said he loves me and that he can look after me and my daughter. I asked him why he was not respecting me since I am old enough to be his mother.

He told me that he is old enough to bear children with me. He lied that he was 21 years old, but I know that he is younger than my own daughter who is 18.

Pangira said at one time, the teenager stormed into her bedroom and begged her to sleep with him.

“I almost assaulted him because his advances irked me. He even said I was being unfair to him as I was sleeping with everyone else in the village.

This is a lie. He tried to win my heart by bringing me groceries, but I refused to sleep with him.

Pangira said the teenager once gave her US$10 and five phones that she kept as evidence to present to his parents.

However, the minor’s parents allegedly took the phones without solving the issue.

Asked about how the phones ended up in Pangira’s possession, the teenager said he was selling them.

“I was selling those phones. I never asked for sexual favours from her. She is lying. She also lied to my parents that I was proposing love to her.

She told me that she was looking for a phone to buy and I gave her the five phones to choose the one she wanted.

“She went to my mother behind my back and told her that she had my phones as evidence that I was asking her out.

Why would I want her as a lover? She is way older than me and her daughter is my friend.

The teenager’s mother, (name withheld to protect the minor’s identity) said at one time Pangira came to her house to apologise for lying against her son.

“These are all lies. My son never proposed love to her. When Pangira first came to us raising the issue, his father severely beat him up.

He failed to attend school as a result of the beating. If he was guilty, he would have confessed, but he never did. We never turned a blind eye to the issue. We tried to reprimand our child, but he is innocent.

In his ruling, Headman Chigodora told the family that it takes the whole village to raise a child. He said the teenager’s parents should protect their son as this might come back to haunt them in the future.
