Peacemaker Attacked With Axe, Left for Dead
Moyo fell to the ground bleeding heavily and lost consciousness
Sidaglubuhle Moyo, 31, thought he was doing the right thing when he stepped in to break up a fight at a Nkulumane sports bar.
Instead he was viciously attacked, nearly losing his life.
A witness says Moyo saw his friend Lance Moyo fighting with a man named Mgceleso Hlabangane. When Sidaglubuhle rushed over to intervene, Hlabangane pulled out a small axe and chopped him on the head three times. An eye witness said:
“Moyo fell to the ground bleeding heavily and lost consciousness.
Hlabangane then quickly fled the scene.
He was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital for treatment of serious head wounds. Police were notified and soon tracked down and arrested Hlabangane.
He now faces an attempted murder charge and will appear in Western Commonage Court.
Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele of the Bulawayo Police urged people to seek help from relatives, elders or police to resolve disputes rather than taking matters into their own hands. She said:
“Such actions might lead to unnecessary loss of life.”
