A 3.2 magnitude earthquake hits west of Johannesburg at 18:46.

EMSC France reported that the tremor was felt in Roodepoort, Soweto. The quake comes just 3 days after an underground tremor caused extensive damage to the road network Bree Street in the same city.

Some believe it was gas that exploded but gas company EgoliGas dismissed the allegations saying their gas supply to customers had not been affected and their system had not detected any pressure drops in their gas pipes.

It is not yet known whether the tremors that were felt in Johannesburg today – and confirmed by EMSC France – are linked to the explosions that rocked Johannesburg CBD three days ago.
