Former AG Tomana Mysteriously Dies of Suspected Poisoning
He was appointed Ambassador to DRC and had returned for a funeral
Zimbabwe’s former Prosecutor General and ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Johannes Tomana, has died.
He tragically passed away at the age of 55.
According to ZimLive, Johannes Tomana died after complaining of stomach pain, which he reportedly experienced after attending a funeral in Honde Valley.
Johannes Tomana was a prominent attorney, who rose to prominence during his tenure as the country’s Prosecutor General in the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.
He was appointed to this pivotal role in 2008, a period marked by the Government of National Unity.
Tomana’s career was not without controversy, as he faced legal challenges and accusations of abuse of office.
In 2015, Johannes Tomana was convicted of abuse of power after refusing to prosecute Munyaradzi Kereke for raping a child at gunpoint.
He eventually agreed to act after he was threatened with 30 days in prison over the matter.
The legislator, Munyaradzi Kereke, was later convicted of rape and imprisoned.
In February 2016, he was arrested in connection with the withdrawal of charges against two suspects implicated in a bomb attempt at a dairy farm owned by former President Robert Mugabe.
The two men were among four individuals arrested outside the dairy farm, north of the capital, Harare. They were found carrying ammonia and petrol bombs.
