Chamisa to Shut Down Harare as Election Day Beckons
As election day fast approaches in Zimbabwe, the main opposition leader Nelson Chamisa whose popularity across the country is without debate plans a massive star rally in at the Freedom Square in Harare on 21st August 2023.
The energetic leader has wowed crowds from the Limpopo to the Zambezi, Victoria Falls to the Eastern Highlands sometimes conducting four oversubscribed cluster interface meetings per day in the past months.

Unlike his nemesis, Emmerson Mnangagwa the incumbent, Chamisa mobilised local crowds – in each area that he visited – who volunteered to be at the meetings.

Having suffered a false start after several of his rallies including the launch of his campaign in Bindura were banned by the ZRP, Chamisa managed to prove that he represents an “idea whose time has come.”
CCC rallies that were banned have accumulated to more than 105 according to the CCC.
Besides the banned rallies, there was massive intimidation of the populace especially in rural areas where the incumbent Emmerson Mnangagwa still claims to have a significant edge.
Political violence was also on the menu with the bombing and burning of several CCC supporters' houses in areas like Shurugwi, Chiredzi, Bindura and Chitungwiza.
Other supporters became victims to physical assault and one Tinashe Chitsunge was killed in broad daylight in the Harare suburb of Glen Norah. The suspects have since been granted bail.
Despite all this, and the shenanigans by his nemesis to use lawfare to bar CCC's Bulawayo candidates from contesting on a flimsy technicality and ZEC's lack of transparency on the final voter's roll, polling stations, ballot printing and registration of fraudulent candidates – Freddy Masarirevhu being one of them – the CCC and Chamisa have emerged stronger.
The Harare rally is to be the statement rally as Zimbabwe heads to the polls on Wednesday 23 August 2023.

Chamisa and his CCC propose to turn around the fortunes of the Zimbabwean nation by introducing a raft of measures including title deeds for rural people, temporary scrapping of the Zimbabwe dollar, opening the airwaves, rehabilitation of infrastructure like roads, telecoms, water systems, transformation of the education system including the scrapping of the controversial CALAs and restoration of the dignity of the citizens.
It is without doubt that Chamisa and the CCC have the popularity and popular endorsement as the team to lead Zimbabwe for the next 5 years and are guaranteed a landslide victory at the polls but the question that remains is if the party is capable of defending the win and wrestle power from Zanu-PF.
