Licences Revoked for Illegal Histalix Trade
The Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe says it has revoked licences and permits for 10 pharmaceutical firms that have been illegally trading analgesic drugs that are being used for recreational purposes.
Harare's Drug Trade Linked to Political Elites
The MCAZ Head of Licencing and Enforcement Division Caroline Dandira-Samatanga says the licence were revoked after investigations revealed that the accused entities and persons were dealing in Histalix.
Histalix is a locally manufactured a cough mixture that contains codeine that has flooded Harare’s streets and is regarded as highly addictive.

According to the MCAZ, other entities were smuggling the drug into neighbouring countries like Zambia.
To curb the illegal trade in Histalix, the MCAZ said they will enforce medicines controls and make sure that prescription drugs are only obtained upon production of a prescription.
