Occupiers of the building and Harare residents could only helplessly watch as their works were destroyed to ashes.
The building houses Callans Furnitures at corner Cameron and Charter Street in Harare Central Business District. Firefighters later arrived on scene but faced some resistance from the people who were determined to save their wares from burning.
Glen View Area 8 in Flames Again
Passers-by could on take pictures and videos as no one seemed to know what to do about the situation.
Ian Makone, the Mayor of the City of Harare later released a statement on what transpired.
There ws a huge fire this afternoon at a shop at the corner of Cameron/Fidel Castro (Charter) Rds in Hre. Our fire brigade team managed to control the fire.
It turns out that the pple at e premise took time to alert the fire team as they were busy taking out goods from the shop.
I’m also told that the crowd there blocked fire fighters from accessing the building & they had to call in the police to disperse them. This also delayed the firemen.
But they still did a fantastic job to put out the fire. The public must allow firemen to do their work.
Infernos have become all to common in Harare and in most cases, the response by the City Fire department is underwhelming.

Earlier in the week, several vehicles were burnt to ashes at a shopping centre in Glen View 1 township. It is in the same vicinity with the Glen View Area 8 Home Industries where property has been destroyed several times by infernos.
