Sunday Reflections: Jesus Steadfast in His Mission

In today’s reflections, we read Genesis 3.8-15++, 2 Corinthians 4.13–5.1, and Mark 3.20-35.

Finding Your Way Back to the Light

Imagine a world bathed in perfect light, where everything is good and nothing is broken. That's the world God created for us. But as the story in Genesis 3.8-15++ tells us, we messed up. We began to see our nakedness (our inadequacies and imperfections). Because of that, we strayed from the light and went to hide in the shadows.

The consequences were immediate. We felt shame, we tried to hide, and we broke our relationship with God. But God, in his infinite mercy, didn't abandon us. He promised a way back, a path to return to the light.

Seeing Through Faith's Eyes

Fast forward to the New Testament, where we hear from St. Paul. In 2 Corinthians 4.13–5.1, he tells us that even though we can't always see it, God is always there, working behind the scenes to bring us back to himself. It's like putting on a pair of special glasses that allow us to see the world through God's eyes. We start to see the cracks in the shadows and the glimmer of hope peeking through.

Family Divided, But Love Remains

The Gospel of Mark reminds us that following God's path isn't always easy. In Mark 3.20-35, we see his critics saying he is possessed by Beelzebub. In other words they said, “He has an unclean spirit.”

Even Jesus' own family didn't understand him. His own mother Mary was concerned with what she was hearing about Him that she had to come to get him. But Jesus remained steadfast in his mission, because he knew it was the only way to restore our broken relationship with God.

The Light Within Us

Just like the light that filled the world at creation, there's a light inside each of us. It's the light of God's grace, the spark of goodness that reminds us of who we were created to be. Maybe you haven't felt that light lately, but it's still there. And God wants nothing more than to help you rekindle it.

Trinity Sunday Reflections: God is a Community of Love

So, how do we find our way back to the light? How do we mend our broken relationship with God? We do it by turning to him in faith, by following the path he has laid out for us, and by letting his love shine through us. It won't be easy, but it's a journey worth taking. After all, it's the journey back to the light.
