Names of Harare-Nyamapanda RTA Victims Released

The ZRP has released the names of the seven people who died in the Harare-Nyamapanda highway road accident in an official statement.

In a devastating accident along the Harare-Nyamapanda Highway, seven lives were lost when a commuter omnibus suffered a tyre burst, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and collide with a tree. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have disclosed the identities of five of the deceased victims.

According to a statement from Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the following individuals have been identified:

  • Michael Mugandani (36), a male adult
  • Innocent Nyamukondiwa (37), a male adult
  • Edith Musorowembudzi (36), a female adult
  • Dumisani Mutsawa (33), a female adult
  • Mabhebhe Chingamuka (6), a female juvenile

In addition to the fatalities, five other passengers sustained injuries in the accident and are currently receiving medical treatment. The condition of these individuals is being closely monitored.

Names of Harare-Nyamapanda RTA Victims Released

Commissioner Nyathi noted that the names of the remaining two deceased individuals will be made public once their next of kin have been notified and identification has been confirmed. The injured victims were admitted to Murewa District Hospital for treatment, while the deceased were taken to Mutoko Hospital Mortuary for their post-mortems.

In an official statement posted on the ZRP’s X page, the police provided further details about the accident and the ongoing investigation. In the statement, the police stated:

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that motorists should observe stipulated speed limits and abide by the road rules and regulations in-order to save human lives.

“The community is urged to drive safely and ensure their vehicles are in roadworthy condition to prevent such tragedies.”
