Three Baby Mamas: Mutare Dad Left with $20
In a heart-wrenching courtroom drama, Gilbert Mhlanga, a man from Mutare, finds himself caught in a web of parental obligations. His three baby mamas have taken him to court, leaving him with just US$20 from his monthly pay of US$400.

Felistus Munenwa, the third baby mama, poured out her frustrations to Mutare magistrate Mr. Xavier Chipato. She revealed that despite giving birth to their daughter, she had received no support from Gilbert. Instead, she scraped by, seeking help from relatives. But life was tough—both for her and the child. Felistus pleaded:
“Your Worship, this man has never contributed anything towards our child's well-being. I struggle daily, burdening my family, while he lavishes attention on his other six children from different mothers. It's disheartening, especially when I see him providing for them in Kadoma. My income from selling sweets barely covers our basic needs—about US$5 per month. I can't go on like this, Your Worship.”
Felistus emphasized that her daughter was still an infant, vulnerable and in need of proper care. Meanwhile, Gilbert's other children enjoyed a more comfortable life.

She continued: “I won't let him abandon our blood. Our little one deserves the best—a balanced diet, good health, and love. That's why I'm requesting US$200 as maintenance for our 15-month-old daughter.”
Gilbert, in his defense, acknowledged his responsibilities but argued that Felistus's demand was excessive. He juggled not only her case but also two other women, each with three children. One of the women had passed away, leaving her children behind.
Gilbert explained: “Your Worship, life isn't easy for me. At month-end, I hand over my bank card, and they withdraw everything. Bills, expenses—it all goes. I'm left with a mere US$60 in change. I can only spare US$40 for our little one, as I have no other income source.”

In the end, Mr. Chipato ruled that Gilbert should pay US$40 as maintenance. The courtroom sighed—a mix of relief and sympathy—as the weight of parental duty settled on Gilbert's shoulders.
