5 Wedza Women Arrested for Teen's Assault
Police have arrested 5 women from Wedza who were seen on a viral video brutally assaulting another woman who had been stripped naked. They face charges of aggravated indecent assault.
The ZRP had earlier indicated that they had taken note of a viral video circulating on social media platforms in which a female victim was being assaulted by a group of female suspects. Some of the suspects are clad in school uniform.
In a statement titled, “ZRP UPDATE ON A VIRAL VIDEO CIRCULATING ON SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS“, the ZRP posted:
Reference is made to our post on the Zimbabwe Republic Police X handle on July 10, 2024, regarding a viral video circulating on social media platforms. The video shows a female victim being assaulted by a group of female suspects.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of the following individuals in connection with the case of aggravated indecent assault that occurred at Mupfuuri Village, Wedza, on July 4, 2024:
- Vimbai Mike (19)
- Rudo Manjere (17)
- Lilly Rose Munyoro (16)
- Lillian Chido Munyoro (17)
- Sandra Vhumbunu (17)

Investigations revealed that the suspects lured the victim, Mavis Mada (18), to Vimbai Mike’s homestead under the pretext of giving her vegetable seedlings. They then assaulted her, recorded a video, and inserted sticks into her private parts. The victim was later freed, unconscious.
The arrest of the suspects led to the recovery of a Vivo cellphone which was used to record the assault incident. Vimbai Mike is detained in Police custody while the other two suspects, who are juveniles, have been released in custody of their parents as they will be taken to court for due process purposes related to their case.

The ZRP recommends members of the public not to resort to instant justice as it is currently receiving medical attention at Mount St Mary’s Hospital. The complainant is alive, and police implore the public to settle disputes amicably without resorting to violence. This case will take its course in accordance with our law.
