In a jaw-dropping courtroom twist, a Bulawayo police officer, Ishmael Khabo, left everyone slack-jawed on Thursday afternoon. His testimony revealed a baffling transformation: what began as a straightforward physical abuse charge morphed into an attempted murder case.
Khabo, stationed at the Sauerstown police station, had diligently investigated the initial charge of physical abuse. But when the case reached the courtroom, it had shape-shifted into something far more sinister—attempted murder.
The accused, Denzel Cement, now faces the daunting prospect of defending himself against this grave charge. Allegedly, he attempted to stab his stepfather, Obert Cement, during a heated domestic dispute.
Obert and Denzel's mother clashed over a phone call, prompting her to storm out of the house, determined to report the matter to the police. Denzel, hot on her heels, followed her outside. Upon returning home, he demanded his mother's cell phone from Obert.

When Obert refused to surrender the phone, Denzel's anger escalated. He allegedly seized a knife and lunged at Obert, who deftly blocked the attack but suffered an injury to his left arm in the process.

The record I know of pertains to physical abuse. Perhaps it changed after the medical report.”
Curiously, Khabo's investigation didn't extend beyond Obert. No other witnesses were interviewed, as Obert claimed they were the sole occupants of the room during the incident. Khabo also skipped visiting the crime scene, citing Obert's status as an “elderly” community member unlikely to provide “false evidence.”
