On August 2, 2024, in Nkani village in Chief Nematombo, Hurungwe, a local businessman fatally shot his wife before turning the gun on himself.
The bodies were discovered at the couple’s home, prompting a swift investigation by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
The businessman had recently returned from a trip abroad. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and authorities are working diligently to piece together the circumstances leading up to the incident.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that the ZRP is thoroughly investigating the case.
“The ZRP is investigating a suspected murder case that occurred in Nkani village, Chief Nematombo, Hurungwe, on August 2, 2024. Further details will be provided once the next of kin have been notified,” Nyathi stated.

The couple was involved in fishery and cattle-rearing projects in the rural Hurungwe. Sources familiar with the couple said that the two had been active in these ventures, but there were no indications of personal or professional disputes between them.
Meanwhile, Sekai Nzenza has been appointed as Zimbabwe’s Ambassador Extraordinaire and Plenipotentiary to France.
Nzenza, who previously served as the Minister of Industry and Commerce, will also represent Zimbabwe at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in Paris and the United Nations Tourism in Madrid, Spain.
