Young Woman Set Ablaze by Jealous Lover

In a heart-wrenching incident, a young woman from Mpumalanga is fighting for her life after being doused with petrol and set alight by her boyfriend. The shocking event occurred on Tuesday, 20th August.

Mbali Ngubeni (22) suffered severe burn wounds all over her body. Her mother, Sibongile Ngubeni (61), received a call from the perpetrator's friend, informing her about the horrifying attack. Mbali is currently hospitalized in Witbank, where she bravely recounted the events.

According to Sibongile, her daughter returned home late on the day of the incident. Her boyfriend, Sthembiso Maseko (34), accused her of cheating and violently assaulted her. In a terrifying turn of events, he poured petrol over her and set her on fire. Thankfully, a friend who was present helped extinguish the flames using blankets.

Neighbors rushed to assist, but the boyfriend fled before they arrived. Sibongile expressed shock at the severity of her daughter's injuries, admitting that while they knew the relationship was toxic, they never anticipated such a tragic outcome.

We tried to end their relationship,” Sibongile said, “but our efforts were in vain.” She revealed that Mbali had denied suffering abuse when confronted, fearing her mother's reaction.

Another family member, Siphesihle Ngubeni (35), emphasized the need for justice. The suspect is known to the family, and Siphesihle's sister had alerted them to his abusive behavior. Despite their attempts to convince Mbali to leave the relationship, she repeatedly returned to her boyfriend.
