A family from Nhlwangwini in Hlokozi, KZN, was left devastated when they received heartbreaking news instead of the joyous announcement they were expecting.
Thandokuhle Dlamini (38) and Mzwandile Dlamini (45) were tragically shot dead on Saturday, 24 August, just as they were about to pay lobola for their brother.

The two brothers were at their makoti's gate, ready to fulfil their role as abakhongi, when unknown assailants attacked them. The suspects, who fled with the R50,000 lobola money, remain at large.
According to a family member, Thandokuhle and Mzwandile had left home early that morning to pay lobola on behalf of their brother, Bongani Dlamini (41). The family was later informed of the tragic incident via a phone call.
“We rushed to the scene and were told that the suspects were driving a VW Polo without a number plate,” said the relative.

The attackers reportedly shot the brothers multiple times before escaping with the lobola money.
The family suspects the shooting might be linked to a tender awarded to Thandokuhle, who had been in hiding due to threats related to the tender.
The relative emphasised that the incident had nothing to do with the makoti or Bongani. “The couple is deeply saddened and heartbroken by this. They don't want to talk about it,” she added.
KZN police revealed that one of the deceased was wanted for a murder committed in July 2024. Provincial police spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed that Highflats police have opened two counts of murder.
The suspects, travelling in two Polo vehicles, ambushed the brothers at the gate, killing them instantly and robbing them of the lobola money before fleeing.
