The case was presented before Magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa on Tuesday, where Makumbe was subsequently released on bail pending trial.

According to the prosecution, Tsungai Makumbe arrived at his ex-wife’s home late at night, around 11 PM. He called her outside, and when she complied, he proposed rekindling their romantic relationship. However, she rejected his advances.
In response, Makumbe reportedly drew a firearm and forcefully dragged her into his car. Once inside, he is accused of sexually assaulting her without using protection.
The prosecution, led by Lancelot Mutsokoti, stated that during the attack, Makumbe pulled the complainant’s leg, forcing her to stand on the ground before assaulting her.
After the assault, Makumbe allegedly offered her USD 20 to purchase emergency contraceptives, but she refused the money.
