The American rapper has come out in defence of South African singer Tyla after she faced a wave of online abuse following her MTV VMA win.

“Tyla wishes she never won that award,” Cardi said. “She's been crying since.” The rapper said the online trolls were being “insufferable” and had no reason to attack Tyla.

Cardi also pointed out that Tyla is still adjusting to life in the US and is only 22 years old. “You guys are being harsh on this girl,” she said. “Do you know how hard it is to be from a different country trying to adjust to America?”
