Beloved friends in Christ,
Today, we gather to reflect on the profound and timeless message woven through the sacred scriptures of Deuteronomy 6:2-6, Hebrews 7:23-28, and Mark 12:28-34.
These passages, though ancient, speak directly to the heart of our faith and the essence of our relationship with God and one another.
In Deuteronomy, we hear the call to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, and might. This commandment, given to the Israelites, is not just a rule but a heartfelt plea from God to His people.
It is a reminder that our love for God should be total and consuming, encompassing every part of our being. This love is not a mere emotion but a commitment, a dedication that shapes our lives and guides our actions.
Moving to the New Testament, the letter to the Hebrews presents Jesus as our eternal high priest. Unlike the priests of old who were many and mortal, Jesus is the one eternal priest who, through His sacrifice, has opened the way for us to approach God with confidence.
His priesthood is perfect and unending, a testament to God's unwavering love and mercy. Jesus' sacrifice on the cross is the ultimate act of love, fulfilling the law and the prophets, and drawing us into a new covenant with God.
Finally, in the Gospel of Mark, we encounter the beautiful dialogue between Jesus and the scribe. When asked about the greatest commandment, Jesus unites the love of God with the love of neighbour.

Here, Jesus encapsulates the entirety of the law in these two commandments, showing us that true love for God is inseparable from love for others.
These readings collectively highlight the core of Christianity: love. Love is the foundation of our faith, the driving force behind our actions, and the ultimate goal of our spiritual journey.
It is through love that we fulfil God's commandments, through love that we serve one another, and through love that we find our true purpose and meaning.
