A domestic dispute over grocery distribution has ended in tragedy, leaving a woman dead and her husband facing murder charges. The shocking incident took place in Chipinge, Zimbabwe, on 8 December 2024.

Isiah Simango, aged 28, is accused of killing his wife during a heated argument over allegations of favouritism in how groceries were distributed between their respective families.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) of Zimbabwe, the altercation began when Simango accused his wife of prioritising her mother while neglecting his.

The dispute quickly escalated, and Simango allegedly resorted to violence. Reports indicate he struck his wife on the head with a mattock, a tool commonly used for farming. The attack left her critically injured.

The gruesome nature of the crime came to light when neighbours noticed a foul odour emanating from the couple’s home. Upon investigation, authorities discovered the wife’s lifeless body in an advanced state of decomposition.

A community member, who requested anonymity, expressed shock at the discovery. “They seemed like a normal couple. No one expected something like this to happen,” the neighbour said.

Simango was arrested shortly afterwards and appeared before the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court. He has been remanded in custody until 30 December 2024 as investigations continue.
