Queen Ntokozo Stops the King From Marrying Third Wife

Queen Ntokozo kaMayisela-Zulu has detailed reasons for interdicting the king from marrying a third wife.

In a detailed letter in which she asked royal family elders to intervene before she interdicted the king, she said she didn’t have a problem changing their civil marriage to customary marriage, but the problem started when the king organised a wedding while they are married in a civil marriage.

On Friday, 10 January, Queen kaMayisela (39) filed urgent court papers to interdict King Misuzulu (50) from marrying Queen Nomzamo “Masesi” Myeni and the urgent matter is set to be heard in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Monday, 20 January.

The king is set to marry Queen Nomzamo on Sunday, 26 January.

In the letter, Queen kaMayisela stated that the king didn’t inform her that he'll marry a third wife despite them being married in a civil marriage.

Queen kaMayisela said she has never stopped the king from taking another wife. She said:

Me and the king are legally married in a civil marriage which doesn’t allow any of us to marry again if it still exists. When Nozizwe arrived, me and the king agreed to change our civil marriage to customary marriage, and we looked for the legal advisers.

“I'm already married to the king, but there are confusing talks that the new queen will be a first wife, and I don’t know where that comes from. The king is a symbol of culture in his nation.”

She said their marriage doesn’t allow the king to be in a polygamous marriage. She added:

I understand that this is not in line with the Zulu culture. That's why I committed myself that we will change our civil marriage to customary marriage to accommodate culture and dignity.
