Acting President, Retired General Constantino Chiwenga criticised corrupt individuals “mbinga” or tenderpreneurs, accusing them of exploiting public resources for personal gain.
Chiwenga said that Zimbabwe’s founding principles were based on equal opportunities for all and not for a few.

This he said was in contrast to the behaviour of those he believes to be enriching themselves through corruption.
The acting president also made reference to Zimbabwe’s reputation as one of the most corrupt nations in Southern Africa, according to Transparency International.
However, speculation is rife that this is part of growing in-fighting within the revolutionary party that has governed Zimbabwe for 44 years.

Chiwenga's remarks come just a day after a faction of veterans of the liberation struggle lamented that Mnangagwa’s administration had failed Zimbabweans.
Zimbabwe faces significant public health challenges, including the prolonged lack of functioning radiotherapy machines for cancer treatment, with the country having gone three years without such vital equipment.
Furthermore, the largest hospital in Zimbabwe is still using a maternity theatre built in 1977, contributing to the country’s high maternal mortality rate, with 2,500 women dying annually during childbirth.
The country is also grappling with an economic crisis, marked by skyrocketing inflation, widespread unemployment at 95%, and the closure of many businesses.
