Disaster As Over Nine ZUPCO Employees Test Positive For Corona
Over nine (9) Zimbabwe Passengers Company (ZUPCO) employees have tested positive for coronavirus, an official has said.
In a statement, ZUPCO Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Evaristo Madangwa revealed that the majority of the employees who tested positive were from the cash office. He said:
The Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) conducted screening at Willovale Depot on July 29, 2020. Nine ZUPCO employees most of them from the Cash Office were unfortunately found to be COVID-19 positive.
One other employee at Belvedere Head Office has also tested positive. The usual procedures by the MoHCC have been taken. Testing will continue to cover other staff.
In a related development, the Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) and the Passengers Association of Zimbabwe (PAZ) have taken ZUPCO to court in a bid to disband its monopoly and allow other private players to operate in order to reduce the spread of coronavirus.
PAZ recently raised concern over the lack of sanitisation and cleanliness in the ZUPCO buses, a situation they said would expose passengers to the deadly respiratory illness.
