40-year-old Tichaona Chinemo, a Johanne Masowe eChishanu Apostolic church member from Burma Valley in Manicaland Province has been taken to court facing rape charges after taking a Grade 7 pupil as a wife.
Chinemo appeared before Mutare magistrate Tendai Mahwe on Saturday and was remanded in custody to July 3.
According to prosecutor Brian Goto, sometime in 2019, Chinemo allegedly proposed love to the complainant, whose age was not revealed, and she agreed.
The two had unprotected sexual intercourse several times this year until the girl fell pregnant and she subsequently eloped to Chinemo’s homestead.
On June 18, the complainant’s mother and social welfare workers found the minor at Chinemo’s homestead where she was living as his wife.
The matter was reported at Burma Valley Police Station leading to Chinemo’s arrest.
