Budiriro Man (55) Rapes Niece (15)
Issue came to light when victim confided in housemaid who told the parents.
A 56-YEAR-OLD Budiriro man has appeared in court for allegedly raping his niece who had visited him for the holidays.
Owen Mpazviriwo (56) was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare regional magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka, who remanded him in custody to next year.
He was advised to approach the High Court for bail consideration. The court heard that Mpazviriwo’s niece, who is a Form 3 student, visited him for the school holidays with her siblings in April last year.
He allegedly called her to his bedroom and asked her to get some shoes from under his bed. He then allegedly pushed her onto the bed, and she screamed for help, but no one came to her assistance. Mpazviriwo then raped her.
After her ordeal, she took her younger siblings who were playing outside, and went back to their home, but she didn’t disclose the incident to anyone.
The matter came to light this month when she confided in their housemaid. The housemaid then told the girls’ parents, who filed a police report, which led to Mpazviriwo’s arrest. Lancelot Mutsokoti appeared for the State.
