THE trial of a Chitungwiza woman Plaxedes Mashasha (66) who lived with the decomposing body of her husband is yet to commence five months after the incident happened.

Mashasha, who was granted bail pending trial last year, appeared before Chitungwiza Magistrate Courts on Thursday where the matter was further postponed to May 11.

State prosecutor Pamela Dzinhuwa told the court that:

“I had liaised with the defence council and we agreed to move the matter to 11 May reason being that we have not yet received the docket.”

Mashasha was arrested in November last year and is facing culpable homicide charges.

Allegations are that she left her late husband, Gideon Mashasha, critically ill in the custody of her mentally-ill son, Grant (39) at their Zengeza 3 home.

Police recovered Gideon’s decomposing body following a tip-off while the couple’s son Grant was hiding in the ceiling.

Grant was allegedly kept in hiding by her mother for 14 years

Doctors declared that Mashasha was fit for trial when she was sent for psychiatric tests following the bizarre incident.

Her bid to secure bail nearly flopped last month after State prosecutor, Pamela Dzinduwa, argued she would cause public disorder.
