Choppies Supermarket was evicted from its branch in Gweru following a court order.
The store was booted out of its premises at Adullah’s Building along Main Street in Gweru as its rental arrears had spiralled.
The owner of the building had approached the court as Choppies was becoming a burden and got an eviction order. Today, the Messenger Of Court stormed the supermarket to carry out the court order, and it was absolute carnage in Gweru.
Choppies staff members were forced to remove all the goods on the shelves and take them outside. Scenes from outside the store have since gone viral on social media.
Tons of groceries were heaped on the pavement in front of the supermarket as staff members and guards ensured they were not looted. Others were loading the groceries in trucks to take them away.
Gweru residents could not resist the spectacularly dramatic Choppies scenes and crowded outside the shop to witness everything.
