Man Dies After Stepping on Sharp Broken Bottle

A 34-YEAR-OLD man died on after stepping on a sharp broken bottle, while a five-year-old girl was fatally hit by a rear wheel which detached from the axle of a haulage truck’s trailer and rolled several times before hitting her.

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said the now late Brighton Munapeyi of Manzinde area of Chipinge bled profusely after sustaining a deep cut on his right foot.

Munapeyi was on his way from Manzinde Business Centre early Tuesday morning when the incident happened.

On Christmas Day, the now late Munapeyi met his friend, Mr Hamudivamwe Bayiso (38) and went for a beer binge at Manzinde Business Centre.

“On their way back home, near Manzinde Primary School, the deceased’s right slipper slipped from his foot. He stepped on a sharp piece of a broken bottle which pierced his foot.

“He sustained a deep cut on the foot and bled profusely. Mr Bayiso informed the deceased’s brother, Munashe (42) who rushed him to Muromo Clinic where he was treated and discharged that night.

“The deceased retired to bed. Munashe went to the deceased’s room the following morning and discovered that he had died. His body was conveyed to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for a post-mortem.”

Meanwhile…

A five-year-old girl from Gudyanga area under Chief Muusha in Chimanimani, Marvellous Mhlanga, died on the spot after being hit by the rear wheel of a haulage truck’s trailer last Friday morning.

Itai Mupondi (32) of Mucheke, Masvingo was driving a white Volvo FH truck and towing a white trailer when the incident happened.

“Mupondi was driving along Mutare-Masvingo Highway with no passengers on board, and on approaching the 109km peg near Gudyanga Primary School, the right rear wheel of the trailer detached from the axle and rolled towards Marvellous who was walking on the far left side of the road.

The wheel hit the girl on the head and she died on spot.”

A report was made to Chipinge traffic police who attended the scene.

Marvellous’ body was conveyed to Birchenough Bridge Hospital for a post-mortem and her next of kin were informed of the incident.
