Baby Mama Drama: Maintenance Case Exposes DJ Fantan
Zimdancehall producer DJ Fantan has been accused of presenting a fake grocery receipt to justify his claims of supporting his children financially.

The accusation was made by Fantan’s former wife, Gamuchirai Nemukuyu, during a maintenance hearing at the Harare Civil Court. Nemukuyu was seeking US$300 per month in maintenance for their two minor children.
Fantan opposed the application, arguing that he could not afford US$300 as he was already covering the children’s expenses, including school fees, rent, and groceries.
However, Nemukuyu disputed these claims, stating that Fantan had not been providing any support since she moved in with her new husband.

Nemukuyu said: “The grocery receipt he showed the court, the last time, was fake. I realised it when I was home, he had never bought groceries worth US$1 500. Ever since I moved in with my new husband, he is not buying any groceries or paying rent and I do not want him to pay rent for me. I just want him to take care of his own children because he often brings Mazoe, Cerevita and sweets.”
Fantan offered to provide witnesses or video footage to prove that he had been purchasing groceries with his ex-wife and children. He accused Nemukuyu of seeking maintenance to fund her lifestyle, rather than for the children’s wellbeing.
Fantan said: “She is only asking for maintenance because she is the one who wants to spend that money living her best lifestyle with her friends. I take care of my children and provide them with everything they want.”
The magistrate, Johanna Mukwesha, ultimately ruled that the $300 maintenance request was too high, and ordered Fantan to pay $100 per month instead, stating that child maintenance is a shared responsibility.
