Sangoma Helps Man Recover Stolen Goods
When a group of tsotsis broke into Kgomotso Zitha's house on Monday, August 12, and made off with his belongings, he thought they were gone forever. Kgomotso, who lives in Rondebult, Ekurhuleni, was devastated after the thugs stole his laptop and two TV sets.

Desperate to recover his prized possessions, Kgomotso turned to his friend and neighbor, Bhekani Khuzwayo. Bhekani had heard about sangoma James Chuma, who was reputed to have mystical powers that could help retrieve stolen items.
“I visited Chuma the next day,” Kgomotso explained. “He gave me muthi—a special potion—to sprinkle in the yard. According to him, the thugs would then return my stolen goods.”
Skeptical but willing to try anything, Kgomotso followed Chuma's instructions. To his astonishment, on Friday, August 16, as he returned from a friend's house, he spotted two men placing his stolen goods near the dining room door.
Approaching them, Kgomotso confronted the thieves. “I asked them what they were doing with items that looked exactly like mine,” he recounted. “They confessed to being the culprits and apologized.”

Despite his anger, Kgomotso heeded his neighbors' advice not to retaliate physically. When the media arrived at his house, the two boys had already fled.
Remarkably, Kgomotso chose not to involve the police. “Instead,” he said, “I opted to consult the sangoma. All I wanted was to reclaim my belongings, and I don't regret my decision.”
Bhekani, who initially doubted Chuma's abilities, witnessed the recovery firsthand. “Kgomotso called me to see the boys who had stolen his goods,” Bhekani recalled. “I convinced him to let them go since they had apologized.”
Sangoma Chuma himself remained humble about his role. “I simply did my job,” he said. “Helping clients like Kgomotso retrieve their stolen items is part of what I do. I'm relieved he didn't resort to violence.”
