Village Head to Inspect Mugabe's Final Resting Place

In the latest episode of the never-ending Mugabe burial drama, Chinhoyi magistrate Kudzanai Mahaso has given the green light for an inspection in loco.

Yes, you heard that right – an actual field trip to the places where the late former President Robert Mugabe was supposed to be buried and where he actually ended up.

Because, apparently, even in death, Mugabe can't catch a break.

Village head Tinos Manongovere, who seems to have a lot of time on his hands, requested this grand tour to show the court the burial spots in Zvimba and Harare.

The former First Family’s lawyer, Kudzanai Gombiro, confirmed this thrilling development, stating, “We are going to the two places tomorrow.” Sounds like a fun day out, doesn't it?

Manongovere, clearly not a fan of how things were handled, dragged Mugabe’s widow, Grace, to Chief Zvimba’s traditional court.

He argued that the late leader wasn't buried according to tradition and should be exhumed and reburied at the National Heroes Acre.

Because nothing says “rest in peace” like digging up someone's remains and moving them around.

Village Head to Inspect Mugabe's Final Resting Place

Chief Zvimba, born Stanley Wurayayi Mhondoro, ordered Grace to exhume Mugabe’s remains from their Kutama homestead and rebury them at the National Heroes Acre, where the government had already built a fancy mausoleum for him.

Grace, however, was not having it and challenged this ruling, but the magistrate court in September 2021 upheld Chief Zvimba’s decision.

As a bonus, Grace was fined five cows and two goats. Talk about adding insult to injury.

Mugabe, who passed away in September 2019 at the ripe old age of 95, was buried at Kutama despite the government's vigorous attempts to have him interred at the National Heroes Acre in Harare.

Mugabe's Exhumation: 2 Chiefs Die in Succession

Following his death in Singapore, a stand-off ensued between the government and his family over his final resting place, dragging on for nearly three weeks.

Because why let a little thing like death get in the way of a good old-fashioned power struggle?
