Mugabe Grave Inspection Saga Takes New Twist

In a plot twist worthy of a soap opera, a Chinyoyi magistrate court last week put the brakes on a rather unusual request.

A local headman, Tinos Manongovere, has been pushing for the exhumation of former president Robert Mugabe’s remains for reburial at the Heroes Acre.

But hold your horses, because the court had to step in and clarify things after a bit of a mix-up.

Magistrate Kudzanai Mahaso found himself in the hot seat, having to explain that the court was not planning a field trip to Mugabe’s grave in Zvimba.

Apparently, there was some confusion about what exactly was being inspected.

Manongovere’s lawyers had asked for a thorough look-see at Mugabe’s final resting place at his homestead.

We seem to be going in circles,” Mahaso sighed, probably wishing he was anywhere else. “I think we agreed to inspect the place where former president Mugabe was to be buried at the Heroes Acre and the Zvimba family cemetery.”

In a letter dated November 19, Manongovere’s legal team, Madzingiria and Nhokwara, made it crystal clear they wanted an on-site inspection at Mugabe’s grave in Zvimba. But it seems the court was not quite ready for a road trip.
