Students Injured in Kwekwe CBD as Globe & Phoenix School Block Collapses into Mine Shaft
The Grade 5 students were injured when the classroom block they were learning in collapsed into a mine shaft underneath.
Seven students from Globe and Phoenix Primary School in Kwekwe Central Business District were injured after a classroom block they were learning in collapsed into a mine shaft underneath.
A Twitter user calling himself “Mayor of Kwekwe” said:
It's just a matter of time before Kwekwe CBD as a whole collapses as a result of the artisanal mining activities that take place under it. Today Globe and Phoenix Primary School a school in Kwekwe has collapsed, a number of pupils have been injured. Not looking good

Journalist, Hopewell Chin'ono commented, “ZANUPF thugs who control illegal mining are a law unto themselves!”
A school in Kwekwe, Globe and Phoenix Primary School has collapsed due to illegal underground gold mining activities that weakened the structural integrity of the school blocks.
7 Students have been injured.

A Kwekwe resident also said: “In Kwekwe we are at risk as one day you will be told of our disappearance due to mining activities being conducted.”
