The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) released a press statement with new fuel prices effective today, 07 October 2019.

Fuel prices are changing weekly which had become a trend as Zera announced that the price of a litre of petrol had been adjusted to $14.97 while diesel was pegged at $15.64 from an average of $12.42 and $11.76 respectively.

ZERA says these increase in fuel prices is due to the FOB (Free On Board) price and the revised customs and exercise tariff that gives legal effect on the product.

“The changes in the fuel prices are due to FOB price movements and revised duty regime “, said ZERA in their statement.

Operators have been advised to sell prices below the cap depending on their trading advantages complying with the required legal pricing.

Zimbabweans are now used to this new tradition of fuel price increases that come into effect every Monday morning.

Commuter omnibus operators have increased fares in response to the increase in the price of fuel by Zera, charging ZWL $10 per trip from Harare to Chitungwiza and ZWL $7 from Harare to Westgate.

The challenge now is that it's no longer sustainable for commuters to cope with the current transport fares that have been triggered by the fuel prices and what this really means is that everything would be going up or has already gone up as LP Gas which was selling $18 it's now selling around $22 whilst ZESA tariffs have also gone up.
