There is panic and pandemonium in the ruling party as opposition party CCC leader Nelson Chamisa appears to have penetrated the rural areas.
This comes after the charismatic 45 year old leader drew huge crowds in traditionally Zanu-PF strongholds of Chilonga a very rural part of Chiredzi constituency. Witnesses say the villagers are voluntarily walking on foot to the meeting points where they are interfacing with the opposition CCC leader.
This has rattled the ruling party and it has resorted to dirty tactics to contain Chamisa.
Police in Chiredzi blocked CCC supporters from entering Tshovani Stadium where party president Nelson Chamisa was expected to address. Its not clear whether the police had cleared the gathering or not.
Police had to throw teargas canisters in Tshovani township to disperse CCC supporters who were waiting for the party president at Tshovane Stadium. The teargas has affected residents in the old location as smoke is entering into houses.
Eight people were arrested by the police in Chiredzi town. They were among the people who were waiting for Nelson Chamisa's compaign rally. The arrested include the CCC's local leadership among them Loyd, Simon Hlomani, Agripa D, Gladstone G, Farai Chauke, Kudzanai, and Charles.
Chamisa (@nelsonchamisa) had earlier tweeted:
I’M IN CHILONGA & CHIKOMBEDZI, CHIREDZI RURAL. My message is simple; There can be no true independence for everyone without land ownership rights, title deeds and development. People of Chilonga need their land. The underdevelopment here is extreme! We will fix this! A New Great Zimbabwe loading..Land and title deeds #ForEveryone
