Double Candidates Do Little Damage
Double candidates in several urban constituencies including St Mary's Chitungwiza, Mt Pleasant, Hatcliffe, Pelandaba seem to have had little effect.
In St. Mary's Chitungwiza, the CCC candidate Brighton Mazhindu won resoundingly with more than 11,000 votes and lawyer Freddy Masarirevhu a CCC double candidate trailed in third place with close to 5,000 votes.
Mthuli & Modi Lose in Bulawayo
In Mt Pleasant, the former CCC spokesperson Fadzie Mahere managed to win the seat with the double candidate causing little damage.
In Hatcliffe constituency, Agency Gumbo of CCC also emerged victorious as voters showed vigilance in the ballot box by sidelining the double candidate.
In Bulawayo, deputy CCC spokesperson Gift Ostallos Siziba cruised to victory in Pelandaba-Tshabalala constituency.
The CCC double candidates were linked to a shadowy group called Forever Associates of Zimbabwe, FAZ which allegedly forged CCC signatures to get several individuals on the ballot as CCC candidates in several constituencies in Bulawayo and Harare.
Double Candidates Do Little Damage
Appeals by the CCC to ZEC to have the double candidates disqualified failed. The party approached the courts and the courts dismissed the application.
The court ruling left the CCC with no option but to begrudgingly walk into the election with the double candidates.
Against the fears or expectations of many (depending on which side you take) the double candidates seem to have failed to achieve whatever they were meant to achieve.
