Kudakwashe Chinhara, a 22-year-old from Chikwanda Village under Chief Chivese in Chipinge, is currently in court for allegedly swindling a client out of ZAR 12,000 and US$340.

The client, Isaac Mudzengi (45) from Hwayi Village, Chief Nhema in Shurugwi, fell victim to Chinhara's promises of performing rituals to help him receive money from his employer. Mudzengi, a truck driver for the South African company N.R Group, had been injured on the job in 2022 and hadn't received compensation from the company. Desperate for a solution, he turned to Chinhara.

In April of this year, Mudzengi approached Chinhara, requesting assistance in getting his promised compensation. Chinhara instructed him to pay ZAR 1,200, assuring him that the money would arrive within two days.

However, when Mudzengi received a message claiming that his employer had sent the compensation via Mukuru, he discovered that the message had been altered.

Desperate and still without compensation, Mudzengi contacted Chinhara again. This time, Chinhara demanded US$70 to cast a spell on the Mukuru employees. Mudzengi complied and sent the money, only to find out that the message was still fake.

Chinhara's demands escalated. He asked for US$110 to remove a goblin causing Mudzengi bad luck, followed by an additional US$300. Mudzengi even surrendered property worth ZAR 3,000.

When Chinhara demanded more money to protect Mudzengi's son from threatening spirits, Mudzengi finally reported him to the police. Unfortunately, only ZAR 200 was recovered.
