Despite the biting economy, it took less than an hour for members of the opposition Movement for the Democratic Change Alliance, fronted Advocate Nelson Chamisa to raise $35 000 bails for 7 members who spent two nights in remand at Buffalo Range prison.
The money was mobilised within an hour of the bail ruling by Resident magistrate Joy Chikodzero.
The seven were arrested for clandestinely staging an Anti-corruption demo in Chiredzi CBD on 31 July.
All the accused had no money on their person and well-wishers were alerted to raise the money.
The state alleges that the crime was only unearthed through a picture that was uploaded on Masvingo MDC Alliance tweeter handle.
According to the Police, the seven had a picture taken at the scene while wearing face masks , raising more questions than answers as to how the law enforcers managed to positively identify them.Police said they conducted an informal parade using the picture.
The state further alleged that the group had placards written: “Zanu PF must go”.
Most of the cadres surrendered themselves to the Police after midnight raids by law enforcement agents at their homes yielded nothing.
