Student Hand-washes Clothes for 58 Hours

Subair Enitan, a student majoring in Linguistics and African Languages at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).

Her recent attempt to set a hand-washing marathon world record lasting 58 hours landed her in the university clinic on Monday.

Abbas Akinremi, the Student Union President of OAU, confirmed the news to various media outlets, revealing that Enitan was admitted to the university clinic right after completing the wash-a-thon in the early hours of Monday.

She ended the wash-a-thon in the early hours of Monday and we took her to the university clinic.

Despite the physical toll, there’s a silver lining to Enitan’s endurance feat – her persistence could potentially earn her a spot as a Guinness World Record holder.

She successfully wrapped up the hand-washing marathon at 12:05 am on Monday, November 27, surpassing the impressive 50-hour mark.

Enitan kicked off her attempt to set a hand wash-a-thon Guinness World Record on Friday. Having notified the Guinness World Record of her intentions back in June, she was given the green light to embark on her challenge on November 24th, 2023.

The university’s management, led by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration Prof Abayomi Daramola, paid a solidarity visit to Enitan on Sunday, November 26, before she completed the task.

Reflecting on her accomplishment, Enitan shared that there were moments she contemplated giving up but persevered to make her family proud.

Despite the challenges, she felt fulfilled after completing the demanding task.

I felt I should give up several times, especially when I was pressed, I was like can I go through this thing?

That my mum and my friends are in this crowd I feel very fulfilled to complete this task right in front of her.
