Jealous Man Murders Pregnant Wife Over Infidelity

A 26-year-old man, identified as Obvious Velani Sibanda, residing in Emakhandeni suburb, has been arrested for the murder of his girlfriend, Nothabo Ncube.

The horrifying incident unfolded at a residence in Emakhandeni suburb during the late hours of Tuesday night, leading to Sibanda surrendering himself to the police.

Authorities have confirmed the brutality of the murder, shedding light on the relationship dynamics between Sibanda and the now-deceased, who was five months pregnant.

Both individuals were romantically involved and employed at the same company.

The police narrative reveals that Sibanda confronted the deceased, demanding information about a frequent caller named Gift on her cellphone.

Allegedly, Sibanda accused Gift of being the father of the unborn child, resulting in a heated confrontation.

On the 5th of February 2024, around 1700 hours, the accused person and the now deceased knocked off duty and went to the accused person’s place of residence. Upon arrival at around 1800 hours, the accused person allegedly asked the now deceased about the contact number of a frequent caller in her cell phone called Gift.

“The now deceased told the accused person that Gift was her boyfriend and was responsible for the pregnancy, the accused claims. He further alleges that this did not go well with him, and he took a metal bar which was behind the door, struck the now deceased once on the head and she fell down and became unconscious.”

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube detailed the tragic sequence of events, explaining that Sibanda continued to assault his girlfriend with the metal rod until she succumbed to the injuries.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, Sibanda promptly contacted his parents before surrendering to the police later that evening.

Inspector Ncube, while expressing sorrow over the loss of a young life, urged the public to resolve disputes amicably, emphasizing the need for dialogue instead of resorting to violence.
