ZANU-PF Councillor Clashes with Church Bishop

So, picture this: At the Spirit Angels of God Church in Beitbridge, things got proper spicy. Former ZANU PF ward 4 councillor and current party bigwig, Aphos Ndlovu, had a full-on clash with the church’s founder, Archbishop Paul Simetch Ndlovu. Why? Because Aphos got the boot from the congregation. This all kicked off on Sunday, and Aphos was fuming, insisting he was still a bishop.

The drama started when Archbishop Ndlovu officially told Aphos he was out, citing “gross misconduct and insubordination” – fancy words for being a right pain. Things got even more heated when Aphos, his missus, and his brother-in-law stormed out of the church in a huff.

Turns out, the church leadership had already given Aphos the sack on July 26, 2024, for all sorts of bad behaviour, like harassing churchgoers and making decisions on his own. Reverend Nqobile Ncube, the church’s Secretary General, laid it all out, saying they had a thorough investigation that led to Aphos getting the chop.

The decision was based on loads of evidence of insubordination and ignoring the church’s rules,” Ncube said. He explained how Aphos’s antics had messed up church operations and broken all sorts of church guidelines. According to the church’s rulebook, members need to show repentance and play nice with the community.

Ncube pointed out that Aphos hadn’t been showing up to services regularly and was making decisions without asking anyone else, which was a big no-no.

The church even asked for legal protection from Aphos and his wife, claiming they were causing chaos and disrupting services. They stressed their commitment to keeping things respectful and orderly, without any threats or intimidation.

The Council for Churches in Africa (CCA) backed the church’s decision, saying they’d received all the paperwork about Aphos’s expulsion. Apostle Pauline Nyathi, the CCA’s Secretary General, said they support the church’s actions and would send a team to keep an eye on things at the Beitbridge assembly.

Our job is to make sure our affiliates stick to their rules and keep things legit,” Nyathi said, adding that the CCA respects the independence of its member churches while upholding the law.
