Mozambican Opposition Leader Mondlane Lands in Maputo
Mozambique’s main opposition leader Venancio Mondlane has landed at Maputo International Airport.
On his arrival, Mondlane knelt and kissed the ground while clutching his Bible in what has been described as a historic act of defiance.
This comes after a disputed election in which several irregularities were cited including having Zimbabwean citizens vote.

Mondlane told journalists that he has returned to be close to the protest movement, to stop the killing of his supporters by security agents, and to take part in national dialogue.
Mondlane later on mingled in the streets with the people while other opposition leaders ignored him and instead went on to engage in a dialogue without the key person, VenĂ¢ncio Mondlane.

President Nyusi scheduled the meeting with opposition leaders same day and almost same time that VenĂ¢ncio Mondlane arrived.
Because other opposition leaders prefer to please FRELIMO, they all went to meet Nyusi at the presidency. Unlike 26 November, these talks did not require Mondlane to be present.
While in the streets, the Mozambican security services have responded with violence to the massive show of support given to the main opposition leader VenĂ¢ncio Mondlane by his supporters in Maputo.
