Cricketer in Stabs Wife | Kirsty Coventry Eyes IOC Presidency

A cricketer was arrested yesterday in Kwekwe for allegedly stabbing his wife. Tarisai Musakanda (29) is facing attempted murder charges following a dispute with his wife, Tinodiwanashe Makunike, also known as Mai Dewei.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed Musakanda’s arrest. Musakanda, who has represented Zimbabwe in five Test matches, 16 ODIs, and 12 T20Is, has not played international cricket for nearly two years.

The incident reportedly began when Mai Dewei hired two men to construct a shelter for her vending business. The men came to collect their payment, leading to a confrontation with Musakanda.

Musakanda allegedly attacked Mai Dewei with a kitchen knife, causing injuries to her hands and back.

A neighbour reported that the altercation occurred around 3 a.m. yesterday. The neighbour heard Mai Dewei’s cries for help and found Musakanda holding a knife while Mai Dewei tried to defend herself, resulting in her injuries. The neighbour quickly took Mai Dewei to the hospital, and Musakanda was detained at Kwekwe Central Police Station.

Coventry, Africa’s most decorated Olympian and Zimbabwe’s sports minister, faces competition from renowned figures like World Athletics president Lord Sebastian Coe, France’s David Lappartient, and Japan’s Morinari Watanabe. The election will take place in ancient Olympia in March 2025, with presentations by candidates scheduled for January.
