Juve Loses $700 000 For Failing To Field Cristiano Ronaldo
Juventus have had to lose US$675 000 for not fielding Cristiano Ronaldo during a friendly soccer match against a South Korean team in 2019.
Juve had been set to pocket US$ 3 million as match fees but they had to forfeit $675 000
The promoter of the game has also been told to compensate 162 fans for the Ronaldo no-show. The fans claimed that the fact that Ronaldo did not play caused them 'emotional distress'.
Juve Ace Cristiano Ronaldo had been expected to feature for Juventus in their pre-season friendly with a K-League all-stars team in July 2019. Much to the disappointment of fans, he remained on the bench for the entire match, which ended in 3-3 draw.
Eager supporters had been promised an appearance from the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, prompting all 65,000 tickets to sell out in three minutes.
Kick-off had to be moved back by over an hour after Juventus' flight was delayed and when the game started Ronaldo was named on the bench.
