SADC & AU Snub Mnangagwa Inauguration

SADC and AU leadership have snubbed the inauguration that happened in Harare with only 3 sitting presidents availing themselves.

Only President Tshisekedi from DRC, Nyusi from Mozambique and long time ally Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa dared to show face at the charade.

SADC Reject Zimbabwe Elections

This means only 3 presidents from the 16 member SADC believe in what is happening in Harare.

The SADC chair Mr Masisi of Botswana and the SADC Troika Chair Mr Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia also did not show up just as the AU chair was represented by very junior ministers.

So desperate was the Harare administration that they had to extend their invitations to spent forces of the region like Edgar Lungu and Joachim Chissano the former presidents of Zambia and Mozambique respectively.

The Chinese also sent a very junior ranking official contrary to earlier reports that Chinese Communist Party Vice President would jet in.

President Lazarus Chakwera and his Kenyan counterpart William Ruto congratulated President Mnangagwa following the controversial election victory but skipped the ceremony.

In figures that ZEC has failed to verify, Mnangagwa won the presidential election after polling 2,350,711 votes (52,6%), beating his nearest challenger, CCC’s, Mr Nelson Chamisa, who got 1,967,343 (44%).

In his congratulatory message, President Chakwera said Malawi was confident that under the Second Republic’s leadership, relations between Harare and Lilongwe would continue strengthening.

On behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Malawi and, indeed, on my own behalf, it gives me great pleasure to extend to Your Excellency my sincere and heartfelt congratulations on your re-election.

In his congratulatory statement, through Kenya’s director, press service Mr Salim Swaleh, President Ruto said his country was committed to bolstering relations with Zimbabwe.

President Ruto also commended Zimbabweans for championing peace before, during and after the polls.

On behalf of the government and the people of Kenya, HE President William Ruto congratulates President-elect, HE Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa on his re-election for the second term.
